A teacher instructing a student in reading comprehension, using Readworks curricula.

The United States is facing a reading comprehension crisis — a high number of K-6 school children cannot comprehend what they read. To address this crisis, ReadWorks delivers a free, online, research-based reading comprehension curriculum for teachers.

Upswell is partnered with ReadWorks to optimize the website user experience toward findability and facilitate the work of teachers in efficiently getting reading content and plans. Our user experience work involved extensive design ethnography and interviews in New York City public schools, and an iterative brand design and schematic design process.

A tool for improving student reading comprehension in America.
